Kuşadası Mayor Ömer Günel attended the celebration ceremony organized by the German city of Marl for establishing sister city relations. Speaking at the program, which he attended as a guest of Marl Mayor Werner Arndt, Mayor Ömer Günel said, “I invite everyone living in Marl, which is also our first sister city, to see Kuşadası, Turkey’s flagship in tourism.”
The municipality of the German city of Marl organized a celebration program for establishing sister city relations with countries in Europe. Kuşadası Mayor Ömer Günel also attended the program, which was held in the conference hall of the Scharoun School in Marl. Mayor Ömer Günel signed the city’s golden book at the celebration, which was attended by the administrators of Marl’s other sister cities, Creil in France, Bitterfeld in Germany, Pendle in England, Zalaegerszeg in Hungary and Krosno in Poland. The program also included close communication with administrators from other cities to promote Kuşadası. At the end of the program, Mayor of Marl Werner Arndt presented Mayor Ömer Günel with a plaque of appreciation.
Making the opening speech of the celebration program, Mayor of Marl Werner Arndt said, “We have gathered here today to celebrate the sister city relations of the city of Marl. Intercity friendships are strong ties that unite not only us but all of Europe. We currently have 175 city sisterships extending from the United Kingdom to Poland. We have strong sister city relations with Turkey as well as Europe. We have been sisters with Kuşadası Municipality of Turkey for 25 years. I would also like to thank Kuşadası Mayor Ömer Günel, who did not turn down my invitation today and did not leave me alone.”

Stating that they attach great importance to their sister city relationship with Marl, Mayor Ömer Günel said, “I definitely expect everyone living here to Kuşadası. Kuşadası is a completely different, very enjoyable city. We have a magnificent city with its sun, sea, nature and history. I hope everyone living in our sister city sees these values we have. There are approximately 85 thousand people in Marl and a significant portion of this consists of Turks. Kuşadası is the flagship of Turkey in tourism. There are 24 ancient cities in its vicinity. I promise that everyone who comes to Kuşadası will be welcomed in a warm environment with the sister city relationship that has lasted for 25 years.”
